Renovation of an industrial PVC roof with TPO

When the roofing membrane of an industrial building needs to be replaced, overlaying with TPO is often the right solution. This is a choice for a roofing membrane with a good lifespan, which is also suitable for multifunctional use.

Many large industrial roofs were covered with a PVC roofing membrane in the past, whose service life is now coming to an end. In the meantime, the way roofs are viewed has changed compared to about twenty years ago. Insulation values have increased, and the use of the roof has become more multifunctional. For example, PV modules are being installed on roofs where possible. All of this leads to new requirements being placed on the new roofing membrane.

Carlisle® offers several roofing systems in this area and often provides the option to leave the old roofing membrane in place, which saves time and reduces disposal costs. Building physics calculations and additional insulation are, of course, required in this case.

Clients are increasingly choosing the white SURE-WELD® TPO. It has an SRI value of 99, making it one of the highest in the Dutch TPO market.

Sealing with superior performance

Industrial roofs require a balance between complexity and simplicity. The roof must be lightweight and often span large areas, while increasingly needing to be multifunctional. Think of applications such as solar energy systems or green roofs. The performance, cost, and lifespan of the roof play a crucial role in choosing the right system. The Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) must remain low.

Our SURE-WELD® TPO roofing system meets all these requirements. The membranes provide superior performance with just a single layer of roofing: a decades-long service life with excellent resistance to weather, chemical, and mechanical influences.

TRATAD Project Management - Rob Honings

Rob Honings from TPM talks about the collaboration between TPM and Carlisle, with TPM acting as the extended arm of the building owner. We meet him on the renovation roof in Heijen, a complex from NOY Holdings with an area of 70,000 m². Carlisle supplied the white SURE-WELD® TPO for the renovation of 8,500 m² of outdated PVC roof.

Jacobs Dakbedekkingen - Roel Jacobs

Roel Jacobs and his company, Jacobs Dakbedekkingen, were responsible for the installation of the SURE-WELD® TPO roof covering. Through contacts within RESITRIX® and the growing demand for white roof coverings, he came into contact with this project. Jacobs specializes in renovation roofs and sees an increasing demand for the renovation of steel roofs with outdated PVC roof coverings. "We see Carlisle as a manufacturer that really thinks along," he says.
